Philip Astley Projects Centre and circus skills workshops was featured on BBC Midlands Today News
BBC Midlands Today News presenter Laura May McMullan visited the Philip Astley Centre where she met our own Andrew Van Buren who was performing one of the Philip Astley Projects school circus skills workshops in Silverdale Academy.
The news item showed some of the centre while Andrew talked about the lifelong dream of helping Newcastle under Lyme – the Birthplace of Philip Astley by turning it into a hub of circus skills and learning, which the Philip Astley Project is well on its way to achieving.
The Philip Astley Projects school outreach programme was shown being run in Silverdale Academy where a class of children enjoyed taking part in one of the sessions, learning about the life of Philip Astley, the evolution of circus and having fun with circus skills.
Andrew says: “It is so important that the local children of Staffordshire learn about the local hero Philip Astley, who created a new form of entertainment, was a military hero and theatrical entrepreneur, the history of his legacy is such an astounding and inspirational story which the children really latch onto whilst developing their physical skills”.
The Philip Astley Projects schools outreach programme which combines the Philip Astley story with circus skills workshops, assembly’s, half day and full day projects provide the chance for classes to visit the Philip Astley Centre as well as the Philip Astley Project team visiting the school.
