Philip Astley Centre
The Philip Astley Centre
What is the Philip Astley Centre?
A previously empty and derelict property has been repurposed and transformed by Philip Astley Projects CIC, working alongside Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, the Newcastle Town Deal and Levelling Up Fund. The Philip Astley Project and creation of the Philip Astley Centre has breathed new life into the town centre with this new visitors centre.
The Philip Astley Centre is the world’s first heritage centre building and celebrating the life, heritage and legacy of Newcastle-under-Lyme born Philip Astley – the Military Hero, Original Ringmaster and Creator of the Modern Circus.
The Visitor Centre is a multi purpose visitor centre celebrating the life of Philip Astley and his legacy; from his Riding School, Astley’s Amphitheatre and Classic Circus, into contemporary performances, spilling out into shows, fairground, art, literature and culture.
The Philip Astley Centre hosts regularly changing exhibitions plus various workshops, classes, talks, lectures, film showings and close performance.
