Showpeople of North Staffordshire Exhibition celebrating World Funfair Month
The Showpeople of North Staffordshire Exhibition celebrating World Funfair Month last year was so successful that we brought it back!
Every Year September sees funfairs worldwide celebrated, so to celebrate World Funfair Month this year the Philip Astley Projects has brought out of the archive our Showpeople of North Staffordshire Exhibiiton. For those who saw it last year in Appetite’s Newcastle Common, we now have a selection of fairground images taken by Ian Knight on display in the Philip Astley Centre in Newcastle under Lyme. You can also see film clips of vintage fairgrounds, audio interviews and pictures of Showpeople, all who live in the area or have traveled around Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke on Trent, the Potteries and North Staffordshire, including Pat Collins, Gandeys, Stanworths, Warwicks and more.
The Showpeople exhibition includes a snapshot history plus behind the scenes images, interviews and footage, it really is a fascinating insight into the travelling show and fair, plus the families who run and work on them.
The exhibition runs until the end of September into early October. Opening times are Wednesdays to Saturdays 11.00am until 4.00pm.
